On Yer Bike – Or A Scooter!

Mass cycle rally by Charlbury’s children will follow the Tour of Britain

Children’s Ride the Tour joins the Ride and Stride on 9 September 2017.

After the cycle Tour of Britain has passed through Charlbury there will be a cycle rally for children covering some of the Tour route through the town calling in at the town’s churches and chapels. There will be different routes for different age categories, and balance bikes and scooters will be eligible for the youngest route. Routes will start at St Mary’s churchyard gate and end at the Windrush Bike Project tent on the Playing Close where all children who complete their route will receive certificates and prizes.

This junior Ride the Tour event should be a blast. It is organised jointly by the Oxfordshire Historic Churches Trust and the Windrush Bike Project.

Saturday 9 September is the penultimate stage of the OVO Energy Tour of Britain when twenty cycle teams including the top five teams in the current world ranking will be racing through Oxfordshire on their way from Hemel Hempstead to Cheltenham. The rolling road block for the race will enter Oxfordshire at Horton cum Studley at around noon and will pass through Islip, Bletchingdon, Charlbury, Shipton under Wychwood and Milton under Wychwood before probably clearing the county by about 2pm.

The Oxfordshire Historic Churches Trust raises money and awards grants to churches and chapels of all denominations across Oxfordshire for essential repairs and the installation of modern facilities. The Ride and Stride on the second Saturday in September is its annual sponsored bike ride or walk around churches and is OHCT’s single largest source of income.  It takes place that day across the whole of England. In each county it is organised by the equivalent local trust coordinated by the National Churches Trust.

The Windrush Bike Project is a West Oxfordshire community interest company bringing together cycle training, maintenance, campaigning and culture.
