I have chosen five of the small churches in the Shill Valley and Broadshire Benefice for this year’s autumn tour. They range from early Saxon through to late Victorian, starting with St Georges Kelmscott, birthplace of The Society for the Protection of Ancient buildings and largely untouched thanks to William Morris. St Mary’s Holwell is home to the youngest of the five and is a fine example of late Gothic revival.
Between these two we shall visit St Matthew’s Langford with its delightful pub, the Bell, for lunch, SS Peter and Paul Broadwell and St Georges Kencot.
There are numerous surprises in all of these and I very much look forward to seeing you in September, especially those who could not make the Spring Tour.
