Our September Tour will be led by Elizabeth Knowles who has also used her deep knowledge of the county’s churches to produce cycling and walking routes for those seeking help in planning Ride+Stride. We shall first visit St John the Baptist, Kingston Bagpuize and then move on to see St James the Great, West Hanney; St Mary the Virgin, Lyford; and St Peter’s Charney Bassett. These churches, with their diverse features, provide an overview of church history in this corner of what is now Oxfordshire but which used to be over the county border in Berkshire. We shall start the day with coffee at Kingston Bagpuize, lunch has been arranged at The Plough in West Hanney, and Charney Bassett is offering us a cup of tea.
Simple joining instructions and a sketch of the route between the churches will be sent to all who have booked in the week before the tour. All these churches are fairly easily accessible (Lyford has no lavatory, and Charney Bassett has only basic toilet facilities).
