Buckland : St Mary the Virgin

The church was built in the 12th century but has had many major additions over the centuries. Built to a cruciform plan consisting of a chancel with north vestry and organ chamber, a central tower, two transepts, the nave and a south porch.

About this church

The unusually wide Nave is 12th century; Chancel, Transepts and Tower 13th century. The Vestry and Organ Chamber are Victorian.
The North Transept contains three hatchments on wooden boards dedicated to the Throckmorton family. The South Transept contains highly decorated panels of mosaic representing the Te Deum Laudamus, installed in 1890/2 at the expense of William West of Barcote
