There is documentary evidence for a church at Launton in 1157, its advowson given to Westminster Abbey with the manor by Edward the Confessor.
In the late 12th and early 13th centuries the aisles and tower were added. The tower contains a Sanctus bell dating from 1352. The church was enlarged in the 15th century and heavily restored in the 19th century , The tower and part of the south aisle survive in the present building and the foundations of a semicircular apse exist beneath the floor of the chancel.
The bell tower has a ring of six bells, all cast by Gillett & Johnston of Croydon in 1907. The church is well-known for its bell ringing and is the home of the Launton Handbell Ringers (est. 1951).
