About this church

The Chancel was rebuilt and the South transept and West tower were added in the 13th century. Aside from some rebuilding in the 14th century no major alterations were undertaken until Victorian times. In 1852 Sir John Hoskyns (1819-1911) then Rector of the church oversaw the removal of the box pews and galleries, the renewal of the chancel arch and in 1863 the addition of the arcade and north aisle. The organ chamber and vestry were added early in the 20th century. The date of the South Porch is uncertain, but it was probably built in the early 19th century using parts of 14th and 15th century screens from elsewhere in the church. The interior contains a 13th century slab tomb and some 17th century memorials commemorating local benefactors of the church.
