Didcot : Methodist Church

Didcot Methodist Church dates from 1903 on land given by Lady
Wantage for the sum of one shilling. It is the only church in the centre of
town up a slight bank overlooking Broadway and the main shopping area.
The church has strong links to the local Churches Together and other
organisations in the local community.

About this church

The church comprises the Sanctuary and Lounge built in 1903. To cope with a
growing Sunday School the Church Hall was built in 1955. £7,500 was raised
towards the building but £1,000 more was needed. So the church made a bold
appeal to the people of Didcot asking for one shilling from everyone and the hall
was built. The last building project in 2010, to provide smaller meeting rooms plus
many other improvements, was made possible by a substantial grant from the
Oxfordshire Historic Buildings Trust.
We are proud of our Methodist heritage of commitment to social justice and for that
reason are a Fairtrade church. We aim to to be a place where people can meet to
worship God and find a warm welcome amongst our membership. We are very
much part of our local community and actively involved as a founder member of
Churches Together in Didcot and District.
As part of our service to the community we provide a meeting place for many
groups that find a welcome on our premises including the weekly Lunchbreak, where
a low cost lunch is available to all. We also support the work of the Didcot TRAIN
Youth Project which runs detached youth work on the streets of Didcot.
