Little Coxwell : St Mary the Virgin

Built by the Cistercian Monks of Beaulieu Abbey in the 12th century it served as a Chapel of Ease, Little Coxwell was a dependent chapelry of the ecclesiastical parish of Great Faringdon. In 1866 the civil parish was established. It contains a number of features of historical and architectural interest,

About this church

The Grade II* listed building has many features that reflect its history. It retains many of its Norman features including a fine doorway,and contains both Early Decorated and Perpendicular windows. Alterations in the 15th century included the rebuilding of the Chancel Arch and the installation of the octagonal font. It has some fine brass candelabrum (c.1729) and displays the coat of arms of George III.
