Tubney : St Lawrence

This is the only Protestant church designed by Augustus Pugin (1812-52). The new church, built for Magdalen College Oxford, was designed by A. W. Pugin and dedicated to St Lawrence, was consecrated in 1847. The interior fittings were designed by him and remain unchanged, including a font given by Queen Adelaide (d.1849)

About this church

Constructed with Coursed limestone rubble, ashlar dressings; gabled stone slate roof with crested ridge tiles; concrete tile roof to vestry and adjoining part of chancel roof; stone gable end stack to vestry. The interior contains an Encaustic tile floor, the trussed rafter roof with embattled wall plate has fine stencilled painting, probably by Pugin. The pulpit in the Nave, lecturn and some benches have carved ends executed by Pugin.
