We are delighted that Dame Fiona Reynolds has agreed to give this year’s Blenheim Lecture:
The Fight for Beauty: Why beauty matters and should shape our future decisions.
Dame Fiona had a long career in conservation culminating in 12 years as Director-General of the National Trust from 2001-2012. She is fascinated by how the need for beauty in people’s lives drove the founders of the National Trust yet is almost invisible in public policy today. She wrote her book The Fight for Beauty to make the case for its return to centre stage. She is now Chair of the Royal Agricultural University in Cirencester and the Cathedrals Fabric Commission for England among other non-executive roles and is working for beauty and sustainability to help shape a better future for all.
I am pleased that we can return to our normal arrangements this year and start with a reception (arrive from 6:15) followed by a sit-down buffet supper in the Palace Orangery. The Lecture will run from shortly after 8:00 pm for about an hour.
As always, we are grateful to His Grace the Duke of Marlborough for making the Palace available to us for this event.
