Clive Fewins will lead us to four churches west of Oxford: St Giles’, Standlake; St Michael’s, Stanton Harcourt; St Mary’s, Cumnor; and St Nicholas’, Fyfield. Standlake nave has a remarkable Victorian roof carved with angels bearing the Signs of the Passion, Stanton Harcourt has a fine C13 chancel screen, some very fine tombs and Henry Tudor’s standard carried at Bosworth by Sir Robert Harcourt. After lunch in the Harcourt Arms, we shall go to Cumnor with its magnificent wooden tower staircase and to Fyfield with its open-sided tomb displaying the corpse of a C15 Lord of the Manor.
Full joining instructions and a driving route will be emailed a week in advance to those who have booked.
The Trust is indebted to Clive for arranging this year’s May Tour following the sad death David Warr at the end of last year.
