This tour has been arranged by Charles Baker, who was the Trust’s President (2021-2022). He is the grandson of Sir Herbert Baker, the architect of the original Rhodes House buildings. The Oxford home of the Rhodes Trust, a fine Grade II* listed building, was built in the 1920s. It has just undergone a substantial renovation with the clever addition of new space in a basement and in the gardens. This tour will be a delight for all with an interest in 20th– and 21st-century architecture. Afternoon tea is included.
Charles writes:
“Do come and join us. We shall be one of the first groups to visit after the major transformation project that is currently underway. This will enable Rhodes House Trust to expand its celebrated global scholarship programme by providing much-needed convening facilities, new offices, and residential accommodation. I am particularly keen to see how they have updated and respected the work of the original architect 100 years ago.”
The tour will be followed by afternoon tea.
If all the available places are taken, and you are disappointed, do please email Charles Baker to say how many tickets you would like, and if there is sufficient demand, we shall try to arrange a repeat of this tour.
Please note that nearby parking is very limited and that the building is being made easily accessible for all.
