I am delighted to announce that thanks to generous flexibility by St Mary’s Church, Rachel Jacques at Chalgrove Manor and The Red Lon pub where we will have lunch, this visit will now take place on SATURDAY 15 OCTOBER. The arrangements are as for the original date – with half the group visiting the church in the morning and the Manor after lunch and the other half vica versa. I will confirm which group you are in in my joining letter. Either way, we will be meeting at 10 am. The cost Is £35 per head, including lunch but not drinks.
I am delighted to let you know that through the good offices of Charles Baker (President of OHCT 2021-22) the autumn tour for 2022 will take place in Chalgrove on 16th September. The visit will comprise two venues. By kind permission of Rachel Jacques, we will be given a guided tour of Chalgrove Manor, a 15th/16th century half-timbered Grade 1 listed manor house lovingly restored by Rachel and her family. The other venue will be the church of St Mary, which has undergone a large restoration project focusing mainly on a series of exquisite wall paintings.
The day will be limited to 40 people divided into two groups. One group will visit the Manor in the morning and the other group, the church paintings. We all gather for lunch at the Red Lion in the village, and in the afternoon, the groups swap venues. This should prove to be an interesting if slightly different format to most of my tours, and because of limited numbers, I do recommend early booking to avoid disappointment.
Please note that good independent mobility is required.
You will receive final details a few days before our visit confirming which way round your day is planned – and confirming the location to meet.
