EVENT POSTPONED
We regret that, due to illness, Malcolm Airs will be unable to conduct the Dorchester guided walk on 1 September. We hope to reschedule the walk at a later date and will contact you once that date has been fixed. You will have priority for reservation for that date but, if you are do not wish to participate, your payment will be reimbursed.
Professor Malcolm Airs will lead a tour of Dorchester’s domestic architecture. Dorchester probably has more listed buildings than any other village of comparable size in the county. The walk will focus on the buildings that line the High Street and will explore the wide variety of building materials and architectural styles that have been employed from the Middle Ages to the present day. Malcolm (who is now one of our trustees) is one of this country’s leading architectural historians. He has lived in Dorchester for 40 years and at one stage was the local Conservation Officer. His intimate local knowledge will reveal a history which is often hidden from public view. Those who wish will be able to have tea afterwards either in the Abbey tea rooms or Lily’s in the High Street.
