About this church

The parish church of Saint Mary was originally Norman and still has its Norman font. The nave was rebuilt in the later Middle Ages and again in the 1730s when work on the chancel was also undertaken. The bell tower was added in the 16th or 17th century. In 1872 the Gothic Revival architect G.E. Street (1824-81) had the chancel rebuilt, the Norman chancel arch enlarged, new windows inserted in the nave and a new porch and vestry added. The tower has a chime of five bells, the oldest of which was cast in 1784. The building also has a Sanctus bell that was cast in 1705.
