Act now to deter lead thieves

Now that the dark evenings have returned and with many churches remaining closed, if you have lead or copper on your church roof and it is not fitted with a roof alarm, OHCT would strongly encourage you to move before you are hit with a theft from that part of the roof.

Recent reports concerning the conviction of a gang of four that targeted churches across the country from Dorset to Yorkshire between 2018 and 2020 remind us that now more than ever we need to protect our buildings.  The affected buildings faced a combined repair bill of more than £2m.

The OHCT has been running a campaign for almost 4 years to help Oxfordshire churches, Church of England, Roman Catholic or any other Christian denomination, to fit a roof alarm.  To date, it has awarded over 50 grants which has helped to protect over 11,000 sq. metres of lead and around 2,000 sq. metres of copper.

Our campaign aims to meet 50% of the costs of installation up to a maximum grant of £2,500.  We are assisted with our scheme through a generous grant from Allchurches Trust. You can apply for a grant here on our website.
