Come Biking with the Bishop!

Bishop Colin and I would be delighted if others wish to join us for our planned cycle route for this year’s Ride and Stride on Saturday 12 September. Do join us for all or part of the day. It should be good fun.

Our route will take us round churches and chapels in and around Abingdon. There are some very interesting churches on our route and wonderful countryside too. It should be a pleasant ride of about 27 miles with a short break in each church and a longer break for lunch in Abingdon itself.

The Abingdon Area has recently been added to Bishop Colin’s episcopal area, so he wants to meet as many people as possible. Many of the churches have received grants for repairs from the Oxfordshire Historic Churches Trust, and I will want to see what has been done or is planned.

We aim to leave All Saints, Church Street, Marcham at 9:30 am,
St Mary Magdelene, Barrow Road, Shippon at 10:00,
St Leonard, Sunningwell Road, Sunningwell at 10:30,
St James the Great, Church Road, Radley at 11:10,
Peachcroft Christian Centre, Lindsay Drive, Abingdon at 11:30,
All Saints Methodist Church, Appleford Drive, Abingdon at 11:35,
Our Lady’s School Chapel, Radley Road, Abingdon at 11:45,
Our Lady and St Edmund of Abingdon, Radley Road, Abingdon at 11:50,
Abingdon Baptist Church, Ock Street, Abingdon at 12 noon,
Trinity Methodist and URC, Conduit Road, Abingdon at 12:10,
St Michael and All Angels, Park Road, Abingdon at 12:25,
St Nicolas, Market Square, Abingdon at 12:45
St Helen, West St Helen Street, Abingdon, at 1:00 pm.

We then disperse for lunch in the hostelries of Abingdon or for picnics on the riverbank before reconvening outside St Helen’s to depart there at 2pm,

Baptist Church, Abingdon Road, Drayton, at 2:35,
St Michael and All Angels, Church Lane, Steventon at 3:15,
St Peter, Church Lane, Drayton at 3:55,
and returning tired but triumphant to All Saints, Church Street, Marcham by 4.30

It is not essential but if you are joining us it would be a kindness if you could tell Norman Dawson, our local organiser in advance. He is ([email protected])
