St Mary and St Nicholas Church, Littlemore

Restoration of the vestry and tower area
OHCT grant: £11,000

In September 2019 work began on the restoration of the vestry and tower area of the church thanks to a generous grant of £11,000 from the Trust. The restoration consists of the creation of a large room by levelling the two vestry areas and breaking through a towering wall. The space will be used for the Junior Church and small groups during the week.

The funding for the rest of an ambitious project of repair and restoration is now in place, largely due to the increased interest in the founder of the church, John Henry Newman, who was canonised in Rome in October 2019. The PCC is extremely grateful to a very generous gift from one of its donors which has greatly assisted these endeavours and ensured the progress of the project.

In the name of the church, named The Newman Meeting Place, a gallery will be installed containing a small kitchen, a toilet and an organ gallery. The NMP project also involves new heating, lighting, redecoration and chairs, thus transforming this Grade II* building into a welcoming meeting place for the whole community in the 21st century, seven days a week.
